BRISCA F1 Heritage Photography - The Golden Years.

A white top driver once said to me as I was busy taking pics of his car being un-peeled from the fence cables..."How come I can only get photo's IF its after a pile up ?

The inference was... I only photographed the big name red tops... and he was almost correct!
The fact was I needed pictures to sell to recover my photographic and travelling costs.
Back then I had a multy previous owners, beat up Ford Corsair of dubious milage which needed second gear to get over a match stick in the road... so printing pictures of white/yellow top cars who usually had a following of family and friends - did not seem viable.
making prints that did not sell.. was time, materials and money wasted!! I usually printed just one or two prints of low grade drivers - and seldom printed others unless they sold!
The exceptions being..as that forgotten white top mentioned - was the pile ups, flip overs and "star wacking" upstarts such as No 9 Mike Lewis in a famous incident at Coventry.
Being in the centre green .. I never actually sold the pictures, so I took it up with  my wife Pat who manned the photo stall and asked how many lower grades followers asked for pix.
It seemed there were quite a lot in those pre digital, camera loaded mobile phone days.
From then I set out to make a "car portrait" of every single car on the tracks and later I presented a little shield for best white top at each meeting.
I recall 92 Roger Bowyer telling me how good he felt getting his award, for as a novice.. trophy expectations were none existant!

The "portraits" sold and still do on eBay!, - but the crash, bang wallop  pictures were only used in the magazines really unless it was a "special"... such as a picture of   391 Stu Smith launched over a barrel at Brafield sold hundreds of copies while an even more dramatic shot of 348 Tony Allen in an half barrel roll  at Brafield sold very little!

The idea behind this website is to show the "feel" of any stock car meeting, the speed noise and action,  - in the hope some old timers view them and say.. I remember that!

There are links to individual "micro" sites for individual drivers, starting with Willie, Smiffy and Cronny. Other will be added as time allows.... so keep coming back.

BRISCA Media -Australia are dealing with the website stuff.. but if you have any memories, complaints, questions or comments - regarding drivers or photo availablity..
they will be passed on to me.
